Our Overseas VolunteersSandra Dryden — Murray & Margaret’s daughter-in-law Our Overseas Volunteer Organization [OVO] organized us with great politeness and efficiency. They were helpful to every one of us. I truly do not know the exact number of Rotarians and their helpers but there was always someone to help, guide, and offer assistance to our group. They did an amazing job at the distribution sites. The first day there was a backlog at the shoe-fitting area. The next day, the problem was solved. Aziz, one of the Rotarians, organized a line-up of five to seven “shoe guys.” Aziz would look at a child’s feet and call out the shoe size. Then the child would go directly to the “shoe guy” giving out that size. They even took down the names of children that needed a different size so they could get them their new shoes later.
At another distribution the children were having trouble carrying the bedkit to the area where they were to get their hats. We mentioned this to the Rotarians and — Bingo! Older school students were enlisted to help carry the bags. A big “Thank You” to the Rotary Club of Pune Cantonment for making this distribution a memorable experience for the bedkit recipients as well as the Dryden/Burton family. What can I say about our team? The best, of course – they were family; but, as Judy commented, with fourteen members it sometimes was a bit like “herding cats.” |
